When the residents of Orange Beach, Alabama, wake up one morning to the brutal murders of a well known family in their community, the sleepy beachside fishing village quickly realizes that they have a much bigger problem than just recovering from the aftermath of a constant barrage of hurricanes; they have a diabolical killer lurking in the shadows of their dunes. The only survivor and witness to the murders is Anna, a nine year old child who is traumatized beyond belief by the bloodshed that she witnessed the night her family was slain in front of her. Hank Jordan, the lead detective in the case, follows clues left mistakenly by the killers and is led to an unimaginable network of international crime and destruction that has for years thrived and lived undetected or ignored in his small town. While Anna struggles to recover, Hank chases the criminals all over Alabama and into the Southeast, racing against time to stop even more murders from taking place.

Indeed. I used to watch that show (its main character, Olivia, is mentioned in the book). The second half of the book is much, much better than the first one. As a very old Czech immigrant (1968) I was initially not pleased with depiction of Czechs as very brutal murderers.
My compatriots, however, get a bit redeemed in the second half of the book cleverly put together by the author with all kind of 'coincidences' tolerable in this kind of literature (and TV/movie screenplays).
The real evil people are the Russians - it is surely statistically more likely that creatures like that exist, for some reasons allowed to live in the USA. Perhaps the old Sicilian mafia needed some new blood, figuratively speaking. Russia is just large enough to make existence such creatures more likely than Czech Republic with its 10 million inhabitants.
Everyone who matters (after the gruesome murders in the first chapter of the book) survives and the leading couple will live, undoubtedly, happily ever after.
Of course, one has to suspend disbelief (as I did during the years Law & Order was still shown) - not all Americans trust our police forces but, in general, we trust them more than my fellow Czechs. Although I have been away from my native land for too long to know that first hand.
It has been now more than two decades since the Communists in my native land gave up (after Gorbachev decided not to use the Soviet Army to crush popular uprisings) and, hopefully, the new generation of Czech cops is now more trusted than their predecessors.
Three stars, too many clichés in the book and, as an old Czech immigrant, I cannot quite accept the idea of a brutal murder of an entire American family by someone born in the country of my birth. This is simply not done there...

The Czech Files The Detective Hank Jordan series Book 1 eBook Ryan Anderson Reviews
I absolutly love this book!!!! The writing style that is used is wonderful! Once I started reading it, it was very hard to put down. While reading it, I started to look at this sleepy little fishing village in a whole new way. I've lived here for a long time and it just wasn't all that exciting anymore, well that is until I read this book. This book has set the bar to which all books should meet. I can deffinatly say that bar is pretty high! This is one of the first crime novels I've read and the suspense in it was amazing. It kept me on the edge of my seat. It was hard to concentrate on anything else other than this book because I kept wanting to know how it was going to end! I have read all three and I can't wait for the next one! I deffinatly would recommend this to everyone I know!!! Ryan Anderson is now my all time favorite author. She tops the list of all my favorite books/authors and that's a lot!!!! She is Amazing!!!
Great book!!
I like the area of the country that the story takes place. It is a little gruesome, but the plot was good. Proofreading is not absolutely perfect, but that can be corrected.
What an entertaining & gripping read! I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes intense, breathtaking suspense! Being familiar with the locations makes it even scarier.
Hard to put down!
enjoyed because I have been to most of the places in the book. story kept my interest
I enjoy reading books set in a local town ..
All of Ryan Anderson's books are amazing. Be prepared to not be able to put it down and at the same time want to read slow so it won't end.
She has 3 books and all are equally very very good. Highly recommend.
